TREASURER’S REPORT (Trish Wubker, Treasurer)

  • The revised budget through December, year to date was distributed. Total income = $33,700 with $33,795 in Total expenditures. Carnival/Auction is the next upcoming event and we hope expenses will be covered by ticket sales.

  • A $900 check from Sally Foster Internet Sales was just received.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT (Britten King)

  • Thank you to Susan Polder for planning a great holiday party!

  • Our Fall events were successful with Community Outreach and Fundraising, Mother/Son and Father/Daughter events and high sales in the Spirit Store during the week-long holiday sale. Thanks to Candy Cole!

  • Looking forward to Carnival/Auction in February, Book fair and Talent Show.

  • Britten “sang” her way through the PTA’s school contributions at last month’s Chorus event/General PTA meeting. Despite this year’s economy, over $11,000 has been generated by PTA efforts and given to the school.

  • VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH/20th Celebration: We wanted to honor the 20th Celebration Decorating Committee for spending weeks on that outstanding effort. Thank you Eileen Crawford, Kathryn Perrotta and Pamela Trudeau for a job well done! Southwest Bulletin may be dedicating a page to Palm Lake Elementary and our 20 Year Celebration. Several pictures have been sent to them.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT (Mrs. Dorsey)

  • A short school assembly program was held this week with the intention of continuing to bring the school together this way on a more regular basis. This included a “live” broadcast of the school news, music and singing to honor and recognize the January birthdays.

  • RENOVATION: Construction will begin in phases on the upper grade side of the campus. 2/3 of that group will be moved either to the other side of the school or a temporary portable structure that is equipped with state of the art technology. This installation should begin next Fall and will most likely impact and close that side’s pickup area as well. We will be counting on our parents to help pack and move those teachers affected. The Dad’s Committee has already been recruited. Mrs. Dorsey is working with the Facilities group to set up an information session for our parents. Our next challenge is also going to be figuring out locations for our school events during this construction period...

  • TESTING: We are gearing up for mid-February testing and FCATS on March 11th.

NEW BUSINESS (Britten King)

  • STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCH: PTA is hosting the next luncheon on Valentine’s Day. Ramee would like to do a “snack bar” theme. Please sign up today and we’ll review at our next Board meeting on Wednesday, February 13th.

  • NOMINATING COMMITTEE: Please sign up to participate on the nominating committee and send in your recommendations for next year’s Executive Committee members. This commitment usually entails going to (2) meetings with Mrs. Dorsey.

  • BYLAWS COMMITTEE: Please sign up to participate on the Bylaws committee. This commitment usually entails participating in (1) meeting to review PTA policies and proposals for changes will be voted upon at a General PTA meeting.

  • CARNIVAL/AUCTION: Committee is meeting today. Pam Trudeau is coordinating with the vendor to provide multiple inflatables, food, DJ etc, as well as soliciting many Auction donations. Jodi Baum and the Homeroom Reps are organizing the Auction Baskets. All auction letters have been sent out. Susan Polder is coordinating student volunteers to run the carnival, so our parents are not burdened and they can spend more time bidding at auction! Ticket sales will begin shortly. Wristbands will be sold for unlimited inflatables jumping. Auction will run from 1:00 – 3:00, but the Carnival will continue until 4:00.

COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENTS / REPORTS

  • WEB SITE: (Britten for Tony Hutcheson) There is a new link on the main page that goes to a renovation news update page with information provided by Mrs. Dorsey. Tony is also setting up a Carnival info page. Pleas email all updated materials and flyers for the site to Tony.

  • PARTNERS IN EDUCATION: (Wendy McGuire) Five Guys Burgers hosted the recent Character Luncheon. Second and Third Grade Spirit Night should be happening later this month/early February. Some of our Partners will be supporting our Auction, including Fastrack Kids and via gift cards. Britten will provide official school letters and tax certification letters for basket solicitations for inquiring Homeroom Reps. They will be available in the Auction folder/mail room.

  • NURSE’S CLINIC: (Trish Wubker for Nurse Jeannie) Clothing donations are needed for boys. Belts, shorts, pants, jackets, sweaters etc.

  • COMMUNITY OUTREACH/Valentine Carnation Sales: (Amy Fultz) Flower orders need to be made as soon as possible. Last year 400 were sold out by 8:20 AM. Proceeds were donated to the tornado victims. This year’s proceeds will be donated to the Angel Fund through Community Outreach. Britten will send an email to recruit sales volunteers. 750 is the new target amount to be ordered.

  • AWARDS: Palm Lake PTA was awarded for 100% membership commitment (9) years in a row!
