A first Grade class welcomed Coach Brooks Johnson. Coach Johnson was one of the coaches for the US Olympic Track and Field Team in Athens, Greece. Coach Johnson was a real inspiration. He told the class the history of the Olympic Games and how they began as a way to create a break in the midst of war since no one fought during the games. He let us see and feel the shirts and told us about the science behind the shiny clothes (to slip through the air) and all the different shoes and the track and how the pole for the pole vault is made. When the kids asked him about how he helped his athletes earn gold medals he said it was just like in school, “practice, practice, practice!”
