Where do funds come from to keep a Nurse a Palm Lake Elementary?

Heath Central Foundation School Nurse Program works in partnership with Orange County Public Schools. The cost for keeping a Registered Nurse is $30,900 a year. OCPS pays $14.400 for each elementary school clinic. Health Central Foundation oversees the funding for the remainder of the necessary funds of $16,500 per school. This is achieved throughout teamwork of Palm Lake Elementary parents and the business community.

• An ambassador acting on behalf of children that have no access to health care and are slipping through the cracks of the health care system

Why do schools need a Registered Nurse?

• When a child comes to the clinic the nurse is able to access whether the parents should be called or the nurse can provide relief
• Without a nurse the child is automatically sent home. Parents loose time at work and often have transportation challenges during the middle of the day.
• With an Registered Nurse on campus, students with chronic illnesses (Diabetes, asthma, etc.) are able to attend school
• You never know when emergencies will occur. Our nurse has used her medical expertise many times throughout the year.
